About the Tibetan Refugee Settlement

tibetanBoys2.1With the generous and kind help of the Red Cross, Royal Government of Nepal, Swiss Government, Services for Technical Co-operation Switzerland, and other voluntary associations, seven refugees settlements were established in various parts of Nepal. The settlement in Tashi Palkhiel was founded in 1962 and is now home to over 1000 refugees.

Current residents rely on the manufacture and sale of carpets and handi-crafts though many entrepreneurial businesses have recently started. templeandmountianAlong with our iconic monastery, community center, school, and old age home, we also have a juice factory, carpet workshop, guesthouse, electrical shop, motorcycle repair shop, restaurants, and numerous retail outlets.

Come visit us! Our settlement is located just 10km up the road from Pohkara towards Phedi.

Our Mission

After securing food and shelter for the refuggees, the next highest priorities of the settlement are to establish health care and education, and to set about finding way to preserve Tibetan culture and religion.
